After six years of growth, the Bay Area Global Health Alliance has become the Alliance for Innovation in Global Health (aigh.org, “the Alliance”). The new name reflects our evolution from a Bay Area network into a global cross-sector alliance of more than 110 organizations—and a clearer role bridging organizations and sectors to accelerate innovation and impact.
The Alliance strengthens the global health ecosystem by catalyzing cross-sector collaboration and accelerating the flow of innovation, capital, and partnerships to advance health equity and improve outcomes worldwide.
Our Bay Area roots remain an important part of who we are. We will remain headquartered in Silicon Valley and continue to convene our community here and at global conferences, while connecting members and perspectives around the world. The new name better reflects both the Alliance we have become and our role in helping organizations navigate a rapidly changing global health landscape.
An evolution that began almost from the start
The Alliance launched in January 2020 with 16 founding organizations and a vision for connecting the Bay Area’s extraordinary global health community. Two months later, the COVID-19 pandemic changed our course—and our definition of community.
Moving online unexpectedly opened our doors much wider. Geography mattered less, our community became more global, and we began to see differently what the Alliance could become.
Today, our network includes more than 110 organizations across sectors and geographies, with fewer than 25 percent now based in the Bay Area. We have a distinctive concentration of technology, private sector, and low- and middle-income country members. That mix gives us an uncommon ability to bridge communities that rarely work together—connecting technology with public health, innovation with implementation, global expertise with local leadership, and promising ideas with the partners and resources needed to move them toward impact.
A changing landscape for global health
The evolution comes at a moment of extraordinary change in global health. Artificial intelligence, new technologies and sources of capital, geopolitical shifts, and unprecedented funding disruption are reshaping how organizations work and how innovation reaches the people who need it.
In 2025, the upheaval in global health funding reinforced something we have seen throughout the Alliance’s evolution: organizations need trusted relationships, community, and perspectives beyond their usual circles to navigate change and find new ways forward—especially when resources are constrained.
The future of global health depends not only on breakthrough innovations, but on the trusted relationships and connective infrastructure that enable organizations to bridge sectors, turn ideas into action, and accomplish more together.
As a trusted, neutral cross-sector platform, the Alliance helps build that connective infrastructure. We bring together leaders across technology, industry, philanthropy, academia, government, and implementing organizations. Through strategic convenings, curated connections, collective intelligence, and actionable insights, we surface emerging issues, connect complementary expertise, and catalyze collaboration across sectors.
A name that reflects who we are today
The name Alliance for Innovation in Global Health captures three elements central to who we are today: our global reach, our focus on innovation in its broadest sense, and the power of the Alliance itself.
For us, innovation extends well beyond technology. It includes new ideas and approaches, new partnerships and financing models, and new ways of working across sectors. And “Alliance” remains at the center of our identity because our greatest strength is our community—and the trust, collaboration, and possibilities that grow from bringing together organizations with different perspectives and capabilities.
Our visual identity is evolving with our name. The bridge in our logo honors our Bay Area roots while representing what the Alliance does every day: connecting sectors, organizations, ideas, and geographies.
The new name reflects the Alliance we have become: global in reach, cross-sector by design, and focused on moving innovation and collaboration toward greater health impact.
